Everything You Need To Know About Iowa Politics According to Gordon.

Obama plainly won the second debate.  All the insta polls, again, show it.

Lots of talking heads, though, seem to be saying there were no "memorable moments."  Don't believe it.  When McCain referred to Obama as "that one," his voice dripping with condescension  and even contempt -- folks will definitely remember that.  A very, very bad and costly moment for McCain.

First debate:  Obama won, McCain lost.  Four quick points:

(1)  All three insta polls after the debate said Obama won.

(2)  Fox focus group (!) said Obama won.

(3)  Mark Halperin, who sets the National Media CW as much as any single person, said Obama won.

(4)  Now stop reading this, and get out canvassing and calling!

On 9/20, I blogged the following:

"As I write this, the Real Clear Politics national poll average has Obama leading McCain by 2.3 points.  My fearless prediction:  by next Friday (9/26), the RCP national poll average will show Obama ahead by 5 points."

And guess what?  Once again, I was right (or very, very close).  Obama indeed did move upward, as of this exact writing, the Real Clear Politics national poll average has Obama leading by 4.2 points.  Once again, this puts all the pressure re tonight's big debate on McCain.  If McCain doesn't clearly win tonight's debate, this thing could be about over.

Well, not, goodbye exactly -- more like fare-thee-well.  You see, with just days -- mere days! -- until an extremely important election I feel the need to spend all my free time (and then some!!!) working to get progressives elected up and down the ticket.  After all, 2008 could and should be a huge sweep for Dems!  That means, alas, no time for blogging.

Also, while I'm on topic, I have noticed a bit of a disturbing tendency on the part of a few Dems to worry, wring hands, kvetch about perceived problems on this or that campaign, doing all sorts of stuff except really and truly helping.

Instead of worrying, get working.

Instead of driving yourself crazy over the latest GOP attack ad, drive yourself all over to pick up absentee ballots.

Instead of hand wringing, shake hands with neighbors, friends, and co workers and convince them to vote for progressives.

Instead of wondering why more people aren't pitching in, wander your precinct to drum up more volunteers.

Instead of trying to contribute strategic ideas, of which all campaigns have more than enough, contribute money, of which all campaigns don't have enough.

Instead of emailing like minded friends, email folks that are undecided and convince them to vote Dem.

Instead of sitting around coffee co ... Read More »

Newsweek: Vehicle Records of McCain's 13 Cars Contradict His Boast About Buying American

DETROIT, MI - Today Newsweek reported that John McCain owns 13 cars - and that contrary to what McCain said in a recent TV interview, the fleet includes three foreign cars. The report shows that McCain wasn't being honest with voters during a recent interview with WXYZ TV in Detroit when he said: "I've bought American literally all my life, and I'm proud."

McCain made the comments while defending his purchase of foreign hybrid vehicle - a purchase he denied making despite having bragged about it in South Carolina last year.

In addition to the foreign hybrid he bragged about last year, Newsweek reports that McCain's fleet of 13 vehicles includes a Lexus, a 2005 Volkswagen convertible, and a 2001 Honda sedan.

In a conference call today to respond to the latest news of John McCain not being straight with working families, United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger said:
"In an interview a few weeks ago with a Detroit TV station, John McCain said, and I quote, "I've bought American literally all my life, and I'm proud."  That may be a nice campaign line, but it turns out that  John McCain wasn't being straight with the people of Detroit-in fact, John McCain owns 13 cars, including a foreig ... Oh, and I should note next Friday (9/26) is also the date of the Very First Presidential Debate.  Which means if my fearless prediction holds, the pressure will all be on McCain.  McCain will have to score big.  Big time.
