The Bush Recession and John McCain

MCCAIN JUST LIKE BUSH ON THE ECONOMY: OUT OF TOUCH WITH AMERICANS' ECONOMIC STRUGGLES

Jobs numbers fell for the sixth straight month today as 62,000 American jobs were lost in June. Unemployment remains at a four-year high. Meanwhile McCain is in Mexico to tout his support of free trade policies that help CEOs but leave American workers behind. Like Bush, McCain is out of touch with American workers, and his economic policies would be more of the same.

After 8 years of Bush economics, America's families are hurting -- and McCain will be more of the same.

Jobs numbers have fallen for six straight months. Unemployment remains at a four-year high.Oil has reached a new record high price, the cost of everything from food to health care is rising and millions of Americans are at risk of losing their homes.

McCain's economic plan, like George Bush's, is filled with giveaways for CEOs and corporations, but gives very little to families. In addition to making the Bush tax cuts permanent, McCain offers massive new corporate tax cuts. While big oil and insurance companies get billions in tax breaks, middle class families get little.

McCain, like Bush, supports trade deals that help wealthy corporations, but hurt American workers.

o McCain is a big supporter of trade deals like NAFTA, which have devastated communities and cost American jobs. NAFTA has cost the U.S. more than 1 million jobs.

o McCain does not support blocking trade agreements because of labor and environmental issues.

McCain, like Bush, leaves American workers on their own. McCain is OUT OF TOUCH with the struggles facing American workers and has voted against protections for workers:

o McCain Straight Talk: Some Jobs '[Aren't] Gonna Stay in America ' In a town hall meeting in Salem , NH , in January, McCain said,"Some of those jobs are not in the right place." "I have to look you in the eye and give you some straight talk. If it's a low-paying job like in textiles that job isn't gonna stay in America ."

o McCain Told Workers Not To "Cling To An Old Economy."

Press Release From Becky Greenwald's Campaign

Tom Latham’s Other ‘Milestones’ In Congress

Des Moines – Tom Latham announced today that he has held 450 town hall meetings since taking office. The Greenwald for Congress campaign thought this was a good opportunity to discuss Tom Latham’s other “milestones” since taking office in 1995.

7 The number of times Tom Latham has voted to continue the Iraq War, even as recently as June 19th.

92 The percentage of Tom Latham’s votes cast in Congress that were following the Republican Party line. That is even higher than Steve King.

507 Amount, in millions, for veteran’s healthcare that Tom Latham voted against in 2006 in favor of tax cuts for people making more than a million dollars per year. (HR 5385)

“Looking at the numbers, Tom Latham isn’t listening to the people of the 4th District at his town hall meetings,” said Erin Seidler, Communications Director. "It’s time to make a difference in the 4th District and elect Becky Greenwald for Congress."

###

"While the practice of second-guessing presidential campaign decisions is a quadrennial routine, interviews with 16 Republican strategists and state party chairmen — few of whom would agree to talk on the record — reveal a striking level of discord and mounting criticism about the McCain operation." Click HERE for full story.

You Gotta Love The Snark

Very badly needed reality check via a blogger at Talking Points Memo:

"After years of working as a community organizer, state legislator and U.S. Senator (cynically promoting "liberal" causes and casting thousands of phony votes in order to fool us into thinking he's a liberal Democrat) Barack Obama is finally showing his true face. It's not a pretty picture. On the basis of a FISA vote he has not yet cast, and some less-than-liberal statements he has made over the past couple of weeks, we can now be positively certain that Barack Obama is a conservative Republican --possibly THE most conservative Republican of all time. Everything he has done in the past has now been exposed as fake and/or opportunistic pandering. This is SOOOO depressing. How could he have fooled so many millions of people?"

Full post.
